Ok, so it's fairly apparent that this blog stopped and hasn't really gone anywhere lately. Wanna know why? Well, I got a promotion to Creative Director and I haven't been able to get back to making the comic strip. As much fun as it was, I just haven't had the time or the actors that want to join in and illustrate the various thoughts in Linchpin, so I'm relocating this blog. I've started a new blog that is slightly less creative and much more about my current situation. It's call Creative Director: Year One. You can find it at http://www.CDYearOne.blogspot.com. Part 9: Where have I been?

You know, that is a really good question. I know I haven't put up any more comic cells, but I've run into a time crunch and so have my characters. SO, that being the case, I thought I would start mixing things up and putting in a few actual blog posts about my struggle to become "The Linchpin".

For most of my career as a designer I have worked for companies that liked telling me "You can't do that!" This never settled well with me. I grew up in the 80's and 90's being told that anyone could do anything, all it took was determination. So, being the stubborn bastard I am, I usually ignored their cries of "can't" and pushed forward and just did what I wanted anyhow. Did this get me promotions, raises, high praise, or congratulations? NO. For the most part it has gotten me scorned and even fired. Now don't get me wrong, I added to the scorning with a heavy helping of rebellious "kiss my ass" attitude. I now realize how much I hurt myself fighting the "status quo" this way.

When I landed my current job as an art director for a publishing company, I decided I was going to handle things differently. I was still going to fight the status quo, but with a better attitude. I decided I didn't need to be an ass in order to make change. I began to think about ways to bring understanding for the need of change rather than trying to force my will on everyone I work for or with. I think this for me was the beginning of trying to become a Linchpin. I had to change in order to become a true agent of change.
